FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is my video private?

Yes. Your videos and inventory are encrypted while they upload and while they’re stored, kept on secure systems in the US, and walled off so only you can see them. We don’t sell your data or use it to train AI models. We don’t use ad or analytics cookies today, and if we ever add them, they’ll stay off until you turn them on. The record of your home stays yours.

What if something gets missed?

You stay in control. Review the list we build, make adjustments, and draw a box around anything we missed. Every item is marked as found automatically or added by you, so your record shows where each line came from.

How much work is it?

Not much. Recording each room is a short walkthrough. No pulling everything out and photographing each item one by one; that’s the labor-intensive way. Once you upload, we take it from there: we work through your videos on our end and turn them into an itemized inventory, so you don’t have to sit and wait or build the list by hand.

Is this a subscription?

No. Disaster Inventory is a one-time purchase that gives you 30 days of access to build your inventory for one property: as many room-by-room videos as your home needs, your itemized inventory, built automatically from your videos, and export. No recurring charge, nothing to cancel. Questions? Email support@disasterinventory.com.

Will you charge me again?

No. It’s a one-time payment, not a subscription. There’s no recurring charge and nothing to cancel. Updating next year? That’s a new purchase, and only if you want it.

Is it really unlimited?

For documenting your home, yes. Film every room, and use two or more videos for a big room or a packed closet. The plan covers one home, so our Terms include a fair use policy for things it isn’t built for, like uploads run by a program or bot, reselling, or one account shared across several households. If use ever goes well beyond a typical home, we may slow or pause processing, and where we can, we’ll contact you first. A typical home won’t come close.

Can I use this to support an insurance claim?

Disaster Inventory helps you document and substantiate what you owned: a record made from videos dated when you started uploading them, with photos and cost estimates for most items, that you can hand to an insurer or adjuster. We are not an insurer or adjuster and we don’t file or negotiate claims, and using the tool doesn’t guarantee any claim outcome. It’s evidence you prepare in advance, not a promise about coverage.

What should I do after my inventory is ready?

Four steps, while your access is open:

  1. Review your inventory and make adjustments, like correcting an item’s name or quantity, and draw a box around anything we missed.
  2. Add details to each item, especially a purchase date if you know it.
  3. Upload supporting documents, like receipts or appraisals, to the items they belong to. Keep your originals too.
  4. Download your PDF report. It puts your items and the main details you’ve added in one file, and lists the documents attached to each item.

Save your own copy before your 30 days are up. After that, you can’t download it.

When’s the right time to do this?

Before anything happens. A record only helps if it already exists when you need it, so film while everything is still in place.

Are the values appraisals?

No. Replacement-cost figures are automated estimates based on what appears in your videos, to help you organize and document your belongings, not professional appraisals. For high-value items, we recommend an independent appraisal.

Film it while it’s all still there.

Record a video of each room. We’ll help you turn it into proof.

A one-time purchase when we open. The inventory you export is yours to keep.
